Two Semester Course on Indian Psychology

Greetings from Puducherry!
Over the last eight years, the Indian Psychology Institute has organised a whole series of introductory courses in Indian Psychology. The feedback we have received on these courses has been unbelievably positive. They have often been described as “life-changing”, though they were only short introductions to what is actually a whole world of inner discovery.
So this year, we are offering a full-fledged two semester course on Indian Psychology. It will be held in Puducherry from September 1, 2015 to April 30, 2016.
The course is open to anyone who seriously wants to get an experience-based understanding of Indian approaches to psychology. Preference will be given, however, to academics and research scholars who intend to take up teaching or research in the field of Indian Psychology.
For further information and the registration form, please see the OYIP15 Announcement on the IPI website (http://ipi.org.in).
Please note that the last date for this first round of registration is March 31, 2015!
Warm regards,
Matthijs Cornelissen

CULTURAL BUDDHISM

Workshop on
CULTURAL BUDDHISM

DEPARTMENT OF PHILOSOPHY
Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit,
Kalady- Kerala.
theme-note
‘BUDDHIST-MATTERS OF KERALA AND ELSEWHERE:
LEARNING (S) FROM CULTURAL LEGACIES’

By ‘Buddhist-matters’, we mean here all those ideas, institutions, knowledge systems, arts, beliefs, rituals, lifestyles, and other cultural practices that bear some marks of contact, inheritance, or influence of the wider tradition of Buddhism(s). The Buddhist-matters, thus, would include both the historical remnants and the continuing forms of institutions and practices related to Buddhist cultures. A critical engagement with some of the broad concerns of Buddhisms is often seen to be a felt-need of the time. The current period is defined predominantly by the proliferating consumerist culture, which bounds to cause various crises for human existence and ecological sustainability. With the onset and onslaught of neoliberal globalised world-order, a peaceful coexistence of diverse cultures has become threatened. Various strands of cultural imperialism, including ethnic and religious, are on their fast track. Sensitive minds from across the world tend to invoke the Buddhist imagery for meeting the challenges paused by the growing consumerist penetration……………….

Context

Today, across the globe, yoga has been accepted and acknowledged as a potent means to help restore and enhance physical, emotional and psychological well-being. Traditionally however, its role extended far beyond its therapeutic nature. It served primarily as a rigourous and time-tested tool for Self-knowledge and self-development. Hence, in order to acquire a deeper appreciation of the Yogic tradition, it becomes imperative to explore its psychological dimensions that are significant and relevant in the present context in order to evolve a more comprehensive and effective system of psychology that can be effectively applied for self-management and self-development. In this backdrop, the Centre for Indian Psychology proposes a one month Foundation Course in Yoga Psychology which will be the first in a series of Basic and Advanced Courses in Indian Psychology.

It will further aim at providing them with a foundation of the basic concepts and theories related to Consciousness, the nature of the Self, identity, various streams of Yoga; discussing issues related to knowledge and research in Yoga Psychology; as well as applying and working with some of the transformative aspects of Yoga Psychology.
